It's not "THE Economy"...it's "YOUR Economy"!

How's it going? Staying busy? Phone ringing? Patients
saying "YES"? Getting referrals? Collections strong?
Confident about the future? Happy?

Whether your answers to these questions are affirmative,
negative, or "to be determined", you'll want to pay close
attention to what I'll be sharing with you in 2009.

Throughout this year you're going to witness me pounding
a few major themes that I know are the foundations of
success in business (including dentistry) today. You'll
want to PLUG IN and also SHARE these themes with your
colleagues, some of whom may be struggling. [You can
do so by simply forwarding this message to them with
the recommendation that they subscribe to this E-Alert
through the link at the bottom of this message.]

One such theme--perhaps the biggest of them all right now--is:

It's not "THE Economy"...it's "YOUR Economy"!

Please don't forget this concept, because it will guide you
through both the best and the worst economic times. The
fact is...you have ZERO control over broader economic
conditions that occur outside your practice environment.
But you CAN have massive control over your outcomes and
success in your business, i.e. "YOUR Economy".

As 2009 is now well underway, the dust has settled
from the holidays and the recent inauguration. No
doubt the past 4 weeks have been busy with more gloomy
economic news, as the President and the media do their
best to lower the expectations of an America that (at
least reportedly) is "desperate" for improvement. I
guess there's no "EASY button" after all! ;-)

It's oh so dangerous to blame outside forces on your outcomes,
because doing so relinquishes your power to effect positive
change. You see, if you think "The Economy" is the reason for
a slump in business, you'll have to helplessly wait for "The
Economy" to get better for your business to recover. Not fun.

You know what? All that external stuff doesn't matter nearly
as much as you may think it does...to your practice, that
is. In fact, I've always contended that with the right
leadership, the right plan, and the right action, you can
ALWAYS overcome the "outside forces" that challenge the
growth of your business.

On top of that, times like these are LOADED with--believe
it or not---OPPORTUNITY! Those who stick their necks out
and ACT can gain market share from those who cower and pull
back their marketing and growth efforts.

Yes, it's time to get BUSY and CREATIVE. Examine your local
media for the potential DECREASE in ads for dentists...and
consider entering those media with effective direct response
ads. (HINT: negotiate lower rates) Initiate and maintain
continuous contact with your patient base through newsletters,
e-blasts, voice-blasts, and other creative means. Create new
ways to REWARD your patients for their loyalty and referrals
(more on that later).

This is "us dentists'" version of "buy low, sell high".
Contrarianism at its best. If you ZIG when everyone else
is ZAGGING, you'll lap the field before they know what
hit 'em. They'll still be complaining about "The Economy",
while you'll be counting your increased profits and bonusing
your team!

So...keep your eyes peeled for the opportunities that present
themselves during sagging economic conditions...and POUNCE.
Don't be afraid to take some risks and even make some mistakes
in your attempts to grow your practice. In the end you'll
thank yourself for having the courage to act when FEAR is the
prevailing emotion among most.

Do you want help in recognizing and identifying opportunities
for growth? Stay tuned...I'm working non-stop for you, and
I'll be serving up a continuous flow here!

All my best,
Chris
